Sabie Experience Lite 2011 » FAQ

  • Why this race?

In the past many riders have enjoyed the coffee rides but not found them challenging and often frustrating because of the wide variety of riders all having to keep together. The Youth Race was not well supported and the distances were a bit intimidating for young riders. The Lite offers an opportunity to ride marked routes at the individual rider's pace. It also acts as an introduction to stage racing for novice riders.

  • Are the routes different to the Main event?

Yes - they will be completely different except for some of the start/finish kilometers. The event will also start 30 minutes after the Main event.

  • Why are there no prizes?

To keep the event affordable and to allow as broad a participation as possible, we have kept the format simple. Teams of two people – the only criteria is a minimum age of 15 years as laid down by the SA Mountain Biking Association.

  • Do we have to ride in teams?

At this stage, yes. However, we are in the process of looking at individual rider options.

  • Do I get a finish time?

Yes, every rider will receive a finish time and if they finish all four days, they will receive a finisher medal.

  • Is there a cut-off?

Yes, there will be a cut-off to ensure safety. This will be determined once the routes are finalised.

  • How many teams may enter?

We have set a limit of 100 teams for this year.

  • Are the Race Rules the same as the Main event?

Mostly yes. We will modify very slightly and these will be published well before the event. Otherwise all the other aspects such as cancellation fees etc. apply.

  • Will we have medical back-up?

Yes. There will be a team of medics for the Lite.

  • When we will know the routes?

The routes are work in progress. We will have the initial mapped routes towards the end of July but these are always subject to change depending on forestry operations.

  • What is the Prologue and does it affect us?

Yes, you will ride the same route as the Main event for Stage One. We have not yet finalised your start procedures yet.
